Beirut – Nantes

Take Away Shows are some of the greatest videos on the internet.  Seriously.  Here’s Beirut playing Nantes.  The combination of intimacy, unpolished reality, and community is incredible.

Check them out on La Blogotheque.

…And We’re Back

I’ve been out for a while.  Finals happened, then adjusting to being home, and finally I got mono (though I haven’t really shown any symptoms, which is wonderful).  But school starts next week, and it’s time to get academic again.  And by academic I mean objects falling in rhythm.

I like this alot.

Her Morning Elegance

Music Music Music

I sooo wish there was a way I could incorporate my posts from the tumblr blog Music from the Wasteland into the sidebar here, but unfortunately I don’t seem to be able to.  In light of that, be sure to check it out.  All you have to do is hit the big “Music from the Wasteland” button on the sidebar.

I haven’t managed to add a song every day as I promised, but I’m averaging a song every two days, even with spending a week without a computer in Mexico and then having mine break, so that’s pretty good.  I’ve been refraining from posting music to this guy, so make MftW your fucking homepage or something.  The jams just keep coming.

Chalk Superhero

This video is even older, but it’s one of the best music videos ever.  Coldplay has come out with a few cool music videos – like their video for the Scientist, where Chris Martin learned the words to the song backwards, so that he could sing it forward as the video played in reverse – but this video for Strawberry Swing is even better.  It’s just a guy standing/sitting/lying on a street, as a team of chalk artists animate an unbelievable stop-motion world around him.  Absolutely worth watching.

Taiwanese Whitney Houston

I’ve got a lot of stuff to post, since I haven’t been on here for quite a while.  I don’t have a lot of time right now, so let’s just get something simple and hilarious on the board.

Lin Yu Chun, this chubby Taiwanese kid with a bowl cut, fucking rocks Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”  He won the Taiwanese American Idol-esque competition, “Super Star Avenue,” and got $1 million dollars and a recording contract out of it.  Justifiably.  Kid can sing.  Though not like you’d expect!
